I Can't...

It's another one of the 100 Themes.

The feelings of inability and inadequacy associated with this theme are ones that I am sure everyone is familiar with. We have all experienced times of hardship, when we feel lost, or as though we cannot get through the problems that face us. I wanted to take a photograph that portrayed the feelings of uncertainty and often fear associated with the belief that "I can't". I think I succeeded in doing so. The model's eyes tell us that she is afraid, she is distraught, she is despondent, she is hungry and desperately wants a sandwich. But she cannot have her sandwich, because she cannot pries open her jar, a jar in which resides the Tsar of all sandwich fillings. She feels no necessity to enact the daily activities of her normal life; as we can see, she didn't even take the time to brush her hair. She feels as though she has reached the end, and she has no longer got the strength to keep trying to open her jar of peanut butter.
